KAKAPO

Stopmotion animation | feature-length | in script development

Through her encounter with the headstrong bird Kakapo, Charlotte discovers her self-confidence and lust for life. That fundamentally changes her world and also sets the distant relationship with her strict mother in motion.

MANU´S NOTES

With the support of the Austrian Film Institute, I am currently working on the script for this heartfelt project and my first animated feature film. »KAKAPO« is conceived as a family film in terms of storytelling and audio-visual design, for children six years and older and adults. Based on the relationship between seven-year-old Charlotte and the last Kakapo bird of its kind, the film deals with themes such as loneliness and strangeness, but also self-confidence, finding one's own voice and discovering the joy of life.

First test models of the two characters Charlotte and Kakapo were made to make my project of an animated feature in stop-motion more tangible. Since these are first test pictures, the final design has not yet been determined. I think that especially with the haptic stop-motion technique, an atmosphere can be created that can be experienced in a special way. It supports the imaginative narrative of the film and is therefore suitable for a young, as well as adult audiences.
